Background

Before converting to Law in 2012, Emma enjoyed a successful career in academia as a Fellow and Lecturer in Modern Languages, first at the University of Oxford and then at the University of Cambridge. She published books and over a dozen journal articles in her field of research.

 

During her legal studies, Emma received major scholarships from Lincoln’s Inn, and won numerous awards, including the Nottingham Law School prize for best advocate, the St Mary’s Chambers Family Law Prize, and the Ropewalk Chambers mooting prize.

 

Practice

Emma joined Harcourt Chambers in 2014 following successful completion of her pupillage.

 

She has already appeared in the Family Court sitting in the High, County, and Magistrates’ Courts. She has been led by John Vater QC in a private law children case involving allegations of sexual abuse and assisted him in drafting successful grounds of appeal and skeleton argument in a Court of Appeal public law children case.

 

Emma has represented parties and welcomes instructions in all areas of family law, including:

  • Private and public law cases under the Children Act 1989;
  • International children law;
  • Financial proceedings arising on relationship breakdown; and
  • Family Law Act 1996 proceedings.

Emma's civil law practice covers landlord and tenant disputes, road traffic accidents, and claims under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.
