Edward’s practice incorporates family and court of protection work, with a particular focus on cases with an international element. He is currently instructed in cases at High Court, Court of Appeal, and Court of Justice of the European Union level and recently appeared in what is thought to be the first international children’s case before the courts of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, to which the SBA Administration was an interested party.


Since January 2015, he has been General Editor of the International Family Law Journal.

At the 2015 Jordan's Family Law Awards, he was Young Family Law Barrister of the Year.


Before coming to the Bar, Edward trained as a solicitor in the London and Prague offices of Allen & Overy, spent a year in the Court of Appeal as Judicial Assistant to the Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Lloyd and a further year as Legal Adviser to the Head of International Family Justice for England & Wales, the Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Thorpe.

He also practises from St John’s Chambers in Bristol where he is a Door Tenant



  • P v P [Case No 1 of 2016] – before a Senior Judge sitting in the Resident Judge’s Court of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, Cyprus. Important guidance on admission to practise before the courts of that jurisdiction.


  • MS v PS C-283/16 - Court of Justice of the European Union . Whether the English the Civil Jurisdiction and Judgments (Maintenance) Regulations 2011 were compatible with the EU Maintenance Regulation 4/2009.


  • Re H (a child) (international abduction: asylum and welfare) [2016] EWCA Civ 988; [2016] All ER (D) 79 (Oct) - Court of Appeal. Whether the grant of asylum to a child acted as an absolute bar to a summary return in an abduction context.


  • Re D (Children) (Child Abduction: Practice) [2016] EWHC 504 (Fam); [2016] 4 WLR 62 – President of the Family Division. Guidance on the power to ‘strike out’ or ‘summarily dismiss’ 1980 Hague abduction applications.


  • Re C & D (Children) (Parental Order) [2015] EWHC 2080 (Fam); [2015] All ER (D) 121 (Aug) – High Court. Whether, in an international commercial surrogacy context, s.54(4)(a) HFEA 2008 ‘home with the applicants at the time of the hearing and the parental order application’ could be read down per Re X (Surrogacy: Time Limits). Preceded by A & B (No 1 -Fact finding judgment) [2015] EWHC 1059 (Fam).


  • D (A Child: deprivation of liberty) [2015] COPLR 209 - High Court.16/17 year olds and deprivations of liberty.


  • AA v TT (recognition and enforcement) [2015] 2 FLR 1 - High Court. The only case concerning the 1980 European Custody Convention in the last 10 years.


  • Re R (A Child) [2014] EWHC 2802 (Fam) – High Court. The first UK-Japan case under the 1980 Hague Child Abduction Convention.
