Helen is a family law specialist, called to the Bar in 1999, having read law and French at Lancaster University and at the University de Nancy II, France.

 

Before joining Harcourt Chambers, Helen spent nine months at the European Commission as the Middle Temple Bristow scholar.

 

 

PRACTICE

 

Helen’s practice covers all areas of family law work, including public and private law Children Act 1989 proceedings, ancillary relief, and proceedings involving domestic violence and disputes between cohabitees.

 

Helen has extensive experience of representing local authorities, parents, relatives and children’s guardians in a range of public law proceedings (including cases where there have been allegations of non-accidental injuries). She has experience of representing parents with physical and learning disabilities, including cases where instructions have been received via the Official Solicitor. Helen has been instructed in cases where the final hearing has been up to three weeks in duration.

 

Helen advises and represents clients in all aspects of private law proceedings, including a variety of section 8 Children Act 1989 applications and cases involving removal from the jurisdiction. Helen represents children in private law proceedings both directly and through a guardian ad litem, has represented parties where disputes have been between same sex partners, and has particular experience of proceedings where domestic violence has been an issue and where complex fact-finding hearings have been required. 

 

Helen undertakes advice and representation in all areas of matrimonial proceedings, and proceedings where there are disputes between cohabitees.  Helen is happy to advise about the implications of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 and has a particular interest in this area.
