Matthew is a family law specialist working across the Midland Circuit. He was called to the Bar in 1998 and is a member of Lincoln's Inn. He successfully blends a positive and approachable attitude with a robust and thoughtful negotiation and advocacy style.

Matthew specialises in ancillary relief and in both public and private children law work.

 

Financial Relief


Matthew has developed substantial experience in dealing with the range of complex issues which often follow the breakdown of marriage and relationships. This range includes but is not limited to :-

 

  • High net worth cases;
  • Cases involving multiple properties and substantial business assets;
  • Detailed analysis of accounts involving the instruction of forensic accountants;
  • Dissipation of matrimonial assets and serious conduct allegations;
  • Cases involving international assets;
  • Intervener's – family members;
  • s.37 injunctions – including assets out of the jurisdiction;
  • Cases involving seized assets as part of criminal proceedings.


Public & Private Law 


Matthew is regularly instructed on behalf of parents, local authorities and Children's Guardians. He has extensive experience in dealing with difficult and complex issues which include :-

 

  • Conducting finding of fact hearings involving the most serious allegations of violence and sexual abuse of both children and adults - examples being inflicted head injury, Attempted Murder and repeated sexual abuse of children by parents;
  • Mental health issues - bi-polar, psychiatric illness, personality disorders;
  • Specific issue cases concerning multi-cultural families;
  • Abduction and removal of children from the jurisdiction;
  • Implacable Hostility and alienation;
  • Long running and entrenched contact and residence disputes
