Practice Profile

Annie specialises in family children matters, both private and public.

Annie studied Law at the University of Exeter before completing the Bar Vocational Course at the College of Law, London Bloomsbury. She joined Chambers in 2012 following successful completion of pupillage.

Prior to pupillage Annie worked as a legal adviser at the Citizens Advice Bureau and with the charity, Families Need Fathers.  She was a McKenzie Friend prior to the changes in the law and later spent a year working at an international law firm dealing with RTA matters.

Practice

Annie’s practice includes all areas of children law and she has appeared in the High Court, County Court and Family Proceedings Court at all hearings from First Appointment to Appeal.

Annie undertakes the full range of private children work including international and internal applications to relocate, fact-finding hearings and all other section 8 applications.  She takes a pragmatic and realistic approach to matters, will stand firm when necessary but recognises that an amicable resolution is usually the best outcome for all involved which often involves some creative thinking!

Annie has undertaken a wide range of cases involving physical, emotional and sexual abuse, non-accidental injuries, domestic violence and neglect as a result of drug and/or alcohol abuse, learning and mental health difficulties.  She has experience of acting for parents, children, extended family members and numerous Local Authorities in care proceedings.  Annie works with some of the most vulnerable clients and is highly attuned to the emotional needs of clients when representing them.   She is keen to continue representing all parties and is able to anticipate and prepare for the positions of other parties as a result of a balanced practice.  Annie will give robust advice about the merits of a case where necessary but does not shy away from a contest.

Annie is regularly instructed in Family Law Act 1996 applications, often starting on a without notice basis.  She also has considerable experience of cases involving self-representing parties from her time as a McKenzie Friend prior to joining Chambers.

Outside of work Annie enjoys time with family and friends, eating out and regular holidays!
