Mehvish Chaudhry successfully upheld applications under The Children Act 1989 (CA) in Re Z (A Child) (FGMPO: Prevalence of FGM) [2017] EWHC 3566 (Fam).

Mehvish acted for Z, a young child, through her rule 16.4 guardian at a five day contested final hearing in the High Court before Russell J. Proceedings were commenced by the Mother for Child Arrangements Orders. The issues, risk of FGM, and the Father’s wish to take Z to Guinea, West Africa (where FGM is highly prevalent) in order to meet with his family, became central issues for the Court’s consideration. After hearing expert evidence the court ordered that Z not be allowed to accompany her Father to Guinea because of the risk of FGM occurring due to paternal family pressure.

The judgment can be found here.
