Sian is an experienced barrister, with a practice covering public and private children cases. She is a highly persuasive and effective advocate. Her clients find her to be a sympathetic advocate, one who understands the importance of building a strong rapport with clients in order to make difficult circumstances feel more tolerable. She has considerable legal knowledge and courtroom skills, which she deploys to achieve the best results for her clients.

Sian was called to the Bar in 2008 and became a tenant at Harcourt Chambers in 2009 after successfully completing her pupillage there.

Her practice covers the whole scope of public law, including highly complex medical cases. Care proceedings. application by mother to restrict disclosure of certain information to the father.


CA, CB and CC (Fact Finding: Coercion and Sexual Abuse) [2025] EWFC 29 (B)

Fact-finding in public law proceedings, regarding allegations of abuse by Father. Found that he had seriously abused the mother, including coercion and sexual abuse.


XY Twins Inflicted Injury, In the Matter Of (Naming Perpetrator) (Re Publication) [2024] EWFC 414 (B)

A hearing to decide whether the anonymised fact-finding judgment should identify Emily Waters as the perpetrator of the children’s injuries.


XY Twins Inflicted Injury, In the Matter Of [2024] EWFC 413 (B)

Final fact-finding to establish who had inflicted serious injuries to baby twins. The pool of possible perpetrators consisted of; the parents, two paid carers and the maternity nurse.


Re N (Children: Fact Finding - Perplexing Presentation/Fabricated or Induced Illness) [2024] EWFC 326

Fact-finding in care proceedings, in which the mother was found to have fabricated or induced children’s illnesses.


Re N (Children: Findings Against a Professional Witness: Joinder or Intervention) [2024] EWFC 17

Care proceedings. Judgment considering the position of medical expert who the local authority asserted had been manipulated by the mother.


LA v X & Ors [2018] EWHC 1116 (Fam)

Sian has represented parents and children in a wide variety of private law cases. She has considerable experience of disputes concerning applications for child arrangements orders, and more specialist areas such as removal of parental responsibility and internal and international relocation. Sian has a reputation for being able to establish a rapport with a wide range of clients, from the very vulnerable to highly successful professionals. Her flexible and adaptable approach enables her to achieve positive outcomes for clients.

Notable Private Law Children cases


F v M & Ors [2023] EWFC 172

Sian Cox represented the mother in complex and lengthy private law proceedings. This judgment follows on from the fact finding judgment [2022] EWFC 124, in which she also appeared and a number of serious findings of coercive and controlling behaviour were made against the father. At the final hearing, Sian was able to secure significant protective orders for the mother, including lengthy s91A, restriction of parental rights, prohibited steps, and non-molestation orders. This case also posed difficult jurisdictional and procedural issues, which arose at a late stage when the father did not return to the UK for the final hearing.


F v M & Ors [2022] EWFC 124

Fact-finding hearing to deal with allegations made by both parties, in the context of Children Act and Family Law Act proceedings.


PM v CF [2018] EWHC 2658 (Fam)

Sian is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public under the Direct Access Scheme in appropriate circumstances.
