Welcome to Harcourt Chambers

Harcourt Chambers is taking all appropriate measures in response to the Coronavirus advice available from Government, NHS and other authoritative bodies in order to safeguard its workforce and clients and to ensure that it may continue to provide a high level service to all its clients.

Our members and staff have the ability to work remotely, so that telephone calls and emails to chambers can be answered and actioned accordingly. We are putting in place measures to facilitate widespread use of video and audio conferencing which can be quickly and easily utilised for urgent and/or other scheduled appointments.

Our premises at London will not now be staffed until further notice and it is likely that the same will be true for Oxford from Monday 23rd March. Documents will need to be delivered by electronic means. If you have any enquiry, please email  in the first instance, or get in touch via our main Chambers' phone numbers, noted at the foot of this page,  which will be operational throughout our normal office hours of 9am - 6pm.

Harcourt Chambers is a thriving top-tier family law set with bases in the heart of London and in Oxford. As frequent winners of major awards Harcourt barristers are well known and highly respected advocates and authors of leading family law texts

Our work covers all areas of family law practice. We have particular expertise in international and domestic private children work, family finance disputes (in both the divorce and the cohabitation context, as well as pre-nuptial and other financial agreements), and public law child protection cases (where we act for local authorities, parents, guardians and others).

Chambers has eight outstanding Queen’s Counsel, all established experts in their fields, and more than 55 junior barristers offering a wealth of experience at all levels of seniority.  Members of Harcourt Chambers are frequently to be found in all courts hearing family cases, including regular appearances in leading decisions in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court. We also offer alternative dispute resolution.

Harcourt Chambers is committed to providing excellent service to our instructing solicitors and clients at every stage. Our clerking team is renowned for its friendly and pro-active approach, with Harcourt clerks known for their ability to arrange the right barrister for every case, even at short notice.

Our barristers will generally charge hourly rates for written and advisory work and fixed fees for hearings. Professional, licensed and lay clients may contact the clerks to obtain a quotation for advice or representation.  Timescales for a case will vary depending on factors such as a barrister’s availability, the type and complexity of the case, the other side’s approach and court waiting times.

We have excellent established relationships with many solicitors and local authorities, and welcome the opportunity to work with new colleagues. Many members of Harcourt Chambers also accept instructions directly from members of the public in appropriate cases.

Our website aims to give you a clear introduction to Chambers, its areas of work and its barristers, and we welcome enquiries by telephone and email to help us offer you the best support for your case.
