The International Family Law Team at Harcourt is widely considered to be one of the most experienced, expert and highly regarded groups of international family law barristers in the country. It is home to a number of KCs and juniors recognised as leaders in the field and our team includes a number of specialist barristers who practise exclusively in international family law.

These cases can be highly complex and we pride ourselves on the ability to combine approachability and excellent client care with considerable technical ability. Our barristers have a wealth of experience in all aspects of cross-border children and vulnerable adult work including: international child abduction, relocation, cases which involve allegations of FGM and forced marriage, international child or vulnerable adult protection, and applications for the recognition and enforcement of foreign orders. Members of the team regularly appear in cases before the High Court, and have appeared in many of the leading cases in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Court of Human Rights and many courts of overseas jurisdictions.

In addition to our court work, the international team undertake policy and academic research concerning many different areas of international family law. The team includes members of the senior judiciary led International Family Law Committee (Rob George and Edward Bennett), the former Editor and current Editorial Board Member of Lexis Nexis’ International Family Law Journal (Edward Bennett), a trustee of Reunite Child Abduction Centre (Mehvish Chaudhry), members of the Reunite Legal Working Group (Edward Devereux KC), a former Legal Adviser to the Head of International Family Justice for England and Wales (Edward Bennett) as well as leading academics in the field (Rob George and Claire Fenton–Glynn). We regularly deliver lectures and training on all aspects of international family law, including to Judges at the Judicial College (Damian Garrido KC and Rob George) and government departments (Edward Devereux KC and Edward Bennett).
