Practice Profile


Naomi graduated from Durham University with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Between completion of the LLB in 2010 and the BPTC in 2014; Naomi worked in human rights offices in South Africa, Stockholm and New York. In the summer of 2015, Naomi undertook a project in Japan into the recent ratification of the Hague Convention.



Her practice covers all areas of family law, including financial proceedings arising on relationship breakdown, private law children cases (including international and Hague cases), public law children cases and Family Law Act 1996 proceedings.


Financial proceedings

Naomi has advised and represented parties to applications for financial remedy, including cases with complicating factors such as trusts, companies, pre-nuptial agreements and conduct arguments. Naomi has also represented clients in ToLATA, enforcement and variation proceedings.


Private law

In private law proceedings, Naomi has experience of applications for all types of orders under the Children Act 1989, including enforcement proceedings and applications for leave to remove. Naomi has High Court experience in representing parties to Hague Convention 1980 applications. International children work is an area of particular interest.


Public law

Naomi has experience in public law matters and has represented clients at contested removal hearings and interim hearings in cases involving issues such as neglect and over-chastisement.


Reported Cases

S (A Child) (Hague Convention 1980: Return to Third State) [2019]  EWCA 352 (Fam)

Naomi Scarano successfully appealed the first instance decision of Cobb J to return a child to a third state pursuant to the 1980 Hague Convention. Naomi was led by Edward Devereux QC


Re WA (a Child) (Abduction) (Consent; Acquiescence; Grave risk of Harm or Intolerability) [2015] EWHC 3410 (Fam)
