Practice Profile

Sara was educated at Oxford and has specialised in family law since 1991 when she was called to the Bar and became a member of Harcourt Chambers.

She has a wide family practice encompassing public law and private law children cases and financial proceedings and is recommended in Legal 500.

In public law children cases, Sara is frequently instructed in complex care proceedings involving the most serious allegations of abuse (including where a parent has killed a child or the other parent), parents with significant disabilities and children with multiple injuries or rare and life-limiting conditions. She is highly experienced in absorbing and analysing complex medical evidence and extensive factual evidence. She regularly represents key parties in substantial High Court hearings lasting several weeks.

Sara undertakes all types of private law children work. She has considerable experience of cases where residence and contact is in dispute and prohibited steps orders and specific issue orders are sought. Sara is particularly sought after for her strategic thinking and expertise in cross-examination. With the increasing importance courts place on the “voice of the child” in private law disputes Sara is always mindful of the need for a child-focussed approach.

In matrimonial finance cases she is sensitive to the individual needs of clients in both large asset cases and cases in which the assets are insufficient adequately to meet the parties’ needs on divorce. She has represented third parties and been instructed in Schedule 1 Children Act 1989 applications for financial provision for children.

She is a highly skilled advocate who meticulously prepares all her cases. Sara's approachable but firm manner enables her to seek a good outcome for her client often by negotiation and   in contested hearings she is a forceful and persuasive advocate.

Sara lectures on courses for social workers across Berkshire and Oxfordshire and has delivered seminars on public and private children law.
