Practice Profile

Frances read Classics at Exeter College, Oxford, before undertaking her law conversion at City University, London, and her Bar Vocational Course at BPP Law School, London.  During her time at City University she came second in their mooting competition.


Frances’ practice covers all areas of family law, including ancillary relief, private and public law children and Family Law Act 1996 cases.




Frances has a keen interest in financial proceedings arising from relationship breakdown and has experience in all aspects of ancillary relief as well as Schedule 1 and Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 proceedings.


Frances’ experience ranges from those cases where the interface between bankruptcy and divorce law falls to be considered to cases involving substantial assets and family businesses.


Frances is regularly instructed in a full range of private law children proceedings encompassing special guardianship applications and all section 8 Children Act 1989 applications. She has experience of cases where a guardian ad litem has been appointed to represent the child and also of those where the Official Solicitor has been involved.


Frances often undertakes Family Law Act 1996 cases and is noted for her gentle and reassuring manner with vulnerable clients.


Frances has represented parents, local authorities and guardians in care proceedings.


She has acted as junior to both of Harcourt Chambers’ silks: to Jonathan Baker QC in a lengthy sexual abuse fact-finding hearing; and to Frances Judd QC in a complex non-accidental injury fact-finding hearing.
