Harcourt’s specialist Court of Protection team offers representation and advice across a broad range of cases relating to the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including welfare, property and affairs, medical treatment decisions, and deprivation of liberty safeguards. We act on behalf of individuals and family members, local authorities and other public bodies, as well as the Official Solicitor.

We have particular expertise in cases involving young people at the interface between the Family Court and the Court of Protection and in cases involving the use of the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court to provide protection for vulnerable adults. We are able to draw upon our substantial experience dealing with the most delicate, complex and challenging Court of Protection and family cases to approach our work with characteristic sensitivity and dedication.

We also have experience of cases involving cross-border issues in which we are able to draw upon the broader expertise of our specialist international team, which is recognised as one of the leading in the country.

Victoria Flowers and Martha Gray are editors of the Court of Protection Law Reports.

We can offer training to solicitors and other organisations on request.
