15th Jul 2026 | News, Seminars

Ruth Cabeza recently spoke at the Across Borders Alliance of Lawyers (ABAL) Conference, held at Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica, California.

Ruth delivered a joint presentation, with Mike Horton KC of Coram Chambers, exploring the role of Non-Court Dispute Resolution (NCDR) in cross-border family disputes, with a particular focus on international children cases. Drawing on her extensive experience in Hague Convention and international relocation proceedings, Ruth examined how mediation, Early Neutral Evaluation and arbitration can assist families in resolving disputes more efficiently and collaboratively.

Ruth’s presentation considered the practical application of NCDR in international child abduction and relocation cases, highlighting the importance of early dispute resolution, effective cross-border collaboration and carefully coordinated legal advice across jurisdictions. Ruth also discussed the value of specialist mediation services in Hague Convention cases and the growing role that alternative dispute resolution may play in achieving positive outcomes for international families.

The conference brought together leading lawyers, judges and academics from around the world to share expertise and explore current developments in international family law.
