Alex read PPE at York before converting to Law with Distinction at the College of Law in 2006 and then completing the Bar Vocational Course in 2007.

After being called to the Bar in 2007, Alex went on to take a Masters in Law (LLM) at University College London in 2008.  During this year, Alex worked with the Free Representation Unit, providing advice and representation at the Social Security Tribunal, securing significant sums for clients whose benefit entitlement had been wrongfully withdrawn.

Before commencing pupillage at Harcourt in 2010 Alex worked for two years as an outdoor clerk, both on the South-Eastern and Western circuits, representing clients as an advocate on a variety of County Court matters.  (See Civil Practice for further details).

Alex joined Harcourt Chambers in 2011 following successful completion of pupillage.

Alex's practice covers all areas of family law.
Alex has a keen interest in financial proceedings pursuant to divorce or relationship breakdown, having undertaken a pupillage with a particular focus on this area.  Alex accepts instructions for all stages of ancillary relief proceedings, as well as applications under TOLATA and Schedule 1.
In private law proceedings under the Children Act 1989 Alex has experience of all types of Section 8 applications, including applications for residence orders, orders for contact, specific issue orders and prohibited steps orders.  Alex also has experience of handling applications without notice in urgent cases.
Alex has acted for clients in a range of public law proceedings in cases involving drug and alcohol abuse, neglect, emotional harm and allegations of sexual and physical abuse, with outcomes involving rehabilitation, adoption or special guardianship.
Moreover, Alex has particular experience with working with clients at court, having done so extensively before joining Chambers, and understands the need to communicate and advise effectively yet sensitively.
