Anna Yarde explores the transparency issues in Lauren Goodman v Kyle Walker [2024]

2nd Sep 2024 | Blog

Rarely (since “Wagatha Christie”) has the media been so captivated by a court case about individuals. But the case of Lauryn Goodman v Kyle Walker [2024] captured the interest of the media and the nation.

HHJ Hess’ judgment has it all: infidelity, an influencer, a famous footballer and lavish spending.

But it also answers important questions about transparency and privacy in the family court. What should the newspapers be allowed to report? How are the children’s best interests weighed in the balance? Should the media be allowed to identify the parties?

Anna Yarde’s guest post for The Transparency Project explores the answers to those questions and the factors relevant to the Judge’s decision.
