Hannah Windmill

Call: 2016

"Hannah exudes the same vibrant energy, devotion, air of confidence, and authority from our first case nearly a decade ago. She takes great care with the detail and strategy, and her drafting is impeccable. She is always well-prepared, with a full grasp of the case and the bigger picture. Her approach is unflappable, sensible yet forceful. She is skilled and responsive with the judiciary, as well as the other side, from those that are represented to litigants in person. Robust, firm, and always respectful, her advocacy is persuasive and puissant. She is an exceptional advocate and has a wonderful sense of humour. Insightful and resourceful, she is passionate about her work and work ethic, engaging fully with clients, colleagues, and clerks. She is outstanding all round and has never wavered: she goes the extra mile and is a wonder to work with, and debrief with, during cases and after they have concluded – something not all barristers invest in."
Partner and Head of Children (London, leading specialist family law firm)

Hannah read Social & Political Science at the University of Cambridge and was called to the Bar in 2016. She completed pupillage at Harcourt and joined in 2017.

A family law specialist with a strong private law children practice, Hannah’s cases include those with complex international elements, relocation, same sex couples, intractable disputes, parental alienation, serious allegations of abuse, complex health issues, disputes about school and change of name. She is regularly instructed to represent HNWIs. She recently delivered training, together with a colleague in chambers, on surrogacy and adoption to a top firm.

Hannah was instructed as part of the counsel team to a high-profile banking inquiry.

Before the Bar and during her studies, she worked in New York and Los Angeles as well as volunteering for children’s legal charities. She believes in kindness and common sense in and out of court. Her favourite person in the world is her 4 year old Great Dane.

Practice Areas

Hannah accepts instructions in all aspects of private law children.

As well as representing parents and children, Hannah is experienced in representing grandparents and has done so in cases of particular sensitivity (such as the death of a parent or a parent being unable to care).

Hannah represents clients who are seeking or responding to applications for injunctions linked to domestic violence or occupation of the family home.

Her experience covers all aspects of international family law including abduction and cases involving stranded spouses, allegations of female genital mutilation and forced marriage.

Having done a mix of both public and private law at the start of her practice, Hannah has a good grounding in both. Whilst she now practises predominantly in private law, she occasionally acts in public law cases and legally aided private law matters often involving complex issues and/or Children’s Services.
