Emma Gatland appointed as a Recorder

Harcourt is delighted to announce that the King has appointed Emma Gatland as a Recorder on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, The Right Honourable David Lammy MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.

Emma’s appointment will take effect on 11 May 2026. She will be deployed in the Family jurisdiction sitting on the south eastern circuit.

Emma has a distinguished practice at the Bar in children work (public and private family law) and is recognised as a Leading Junior in the Legal 500. She was appointed as a Deputy District Judge (hearing civil and family cases) in 2024.

Emma will continue her busy practice as a barrister alongside her judicial appointments.
