Harcourt Chambers invites applications for a Probationary Tenancy starting in October 2026 at our London premises at 2 Harcourt Buildings, Temple, EC4Y 9DB.
We have one vacancy available and we are interested in applicants who have a strong interest in all areas of family law, but with a particular interest in finance and private law children work.
Key Information:
Start Date: October 2026
Length of Tenancy: 6 months
Level of Guaranteed Earnings: £12,932 (probationary tenants can expect to earn significantly in excess of this)
Closing Date for Applications: 8 July 2026
How to Apply:
Candidates may apply to chambers by sending a covering letter to mmolloy@harcourtchambers.co.uk setting out:
a) Why the candidate is seeking a probationary tenancy at Harcourt
b) An example of a time they displayed good advocacy skills
c) An example of a time they displayed good client care skills
d) An example of a time they solved a problem
e) What they can contribute to Harcourt.
Candidates should also send a copy of their CV that includes their academic record from A-level/equivalent onwards, details of legal and non-legal work experience and voluntary work before commencing pupillage and details of work done during pupillage to date, including any talks/webinars, research or article writing that they have been involved in.
Candidates should also send a sample of their drafting, suitably anonymised, with their application which should be no more than 4 pages in length.
Should the candidate progress to an interview, two references will be requested, one of which should be from one of their pupil supervisors.
Chambers will endeavour to notify candidates by 13 July 2026 whether they have been invited for interview. Interviews will take place on a date to be set, likely to be in the week commencing 20 July 2026.

About the candidate – Chambers is looking for candidates who have a consistently excellent academic record, relevant experience of family law, good advocacy, communication and drafting skills, the inter-personal skills required to develop an independent practice at the family bar and a commitment to contributing to Chambers. The candidate will be required to undertake the full range of Chambers’ work, with Chambers inviting applications from candidates who have a particular interest or experience in private law children and finance work.
