As a led junior Kate has also represented a Children’s Guardian in a three week fact finding hearing involving complex allegations of harm.
Prior to joining Chambers, Kate worked as a paralegal in a specialist family law firm and Local Authority legal department gaining a wide range of experience in both public and private law children work.

Kate has a busy practice in public law children representing Local Authorities, parents, children, grandparents and interveners.
Kate has a wide range of experience in matters which involve issues such as drug and alcohol problems, neglect, physical and emotional harm and mental health difficulties.
Kate also has experience in complex cases involving allegations of sexual abuse and fictitious or induced injury.
Fact-finding in care proceedings. Found that children had suffered emotional harm and neglect whilst in the care of their mother.
Kate has a strong private law children practice. Kate frequently acts for parents, guardians and other family members in cases involving all forms of parental dispute, parental alienation, allegations of abuse, intractable contact disputes and cases which have an international element.
Kate also represents clients in injunctive proceedings with an extensive experience of applications for non-molestation orders and occupation orders.

Kate Ferguson, instructed by John Welch & Stammers solicitors, represented the father in the Family Court at Oxford before HHJ Vincent in this private hearing of cross-applications by mother to enforce order that children should live with her, and by father for an order that they should remain in his care. The Court decided that the children should remain living with their father.
