Often parents and children involved in public law proceedings have learning disabilities, learning difficulties or other vulnerabilities which must be taken into account by the court and the professionals working with the individuals.

Harcourt barristers understand that effectively communicating with lay clients is just as important as effectively communicating with the judge. Members of our Public Law Children Team are able to build rapport and effectively and sensitively ensure vulnerable lay clients have a clear understanding of the proceedings and decisions.

Older children will sometimes find themselves subject to the jurisdiction of both the family court and the court of protection. We are used to the technical issues arising when there is a choice or change of jurisdiction.

Harcourt barristers will fearlessly ensure that vulnerable lay clients have the right support they are entitled to during assessments and the court proceedings. We are regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor.
