Suzanne Syme in J v E (No2) (Case Management) [2024] EWFC 107

28th Feb 2025 | Cases

Following the earlier reported decisions where Edward Devereux KC and Prof Rob George represented the father in the successful Court of Appeal challenge, the re-hearing and the fact finding in the ongoing case of J v E, Edward Devereux KC and Suzanne Syme appeared on behalf of the father, instructed by Field Seymour Parkes in relation to the mother’s claims under TLATA 1996 and Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989. The father also sought his costs of his successful appeal to the Court of Appeal.

The judgment highlighted the particular challenges of this case, where the issue pertaining to case management of the financial proceedings, the LSPO application and the ongoing issues relating to disclosure from foreign jurisdictions required firm management by the Court. These issues were intertwined with the mother’s application for reconsideration (not an appeal) of earlier case management decisions pertaining to the welfare proceedings.

The liquid assets in this jurisdiction were c£10m. There were further assets held abroad in the name of the mother and a business structure in which the mother was the director and majority shareholder totalling a further c£1m. The substantive applications have now concluded.
