Professor Rob George KC in Re S Appeal

13th Jun 2025 | Cases

Professor Rob George KC, acting alongside Deirdre Fottrell KC and Andrew Powell, both of 4 Paper Buildings, were instructed by James Netto of International Family Law Group to represent the appellant child in Re S in his successful appeal before the Court of Appeal yesterday.

This high profile case concerns a 14 year old boy currently in Ghana, having been taken there by his parents who deceived him into thinking it was a short trip to see family when the parents’ intention was in fact to leave him there to attend boarding school.

Giving a short summary of the decision at the end of yesterday’s hearing, the President of the Family Division, Sir Andrew McFarlane, held that the High Court’s decision to leave the boy in Ghana was flawed. The matter will be returned to a different judge for an urgent re-hearing.

Rob has acted for the child in this case throughout the proceedings, part of his wider practice in relation to international family law cases. There is media coverage of yesterday’s hearing from the BBC available here, and Rob’s profile can be viewed here.

The hearing at first instance was featured in this Harcourt news item.
